The trip to Phu Quoc (Vietnam)
We had the family trip to Phu Quoc Vietnam recently and it was great.
The best time to travel to Phu Quoc
Although October is not usual time for the tourist but we decided to go this time because I had extra holiday on the week 😉 Plus, the weather is nice, it starts the most suitable, beautiful weather from November to March next year, so October is the month in between. Luckily, our 4 days trip went well, most of the time the sky was clear, not too hot, except one night it was heavily rain so we couldn’t enjoy that night.
The taxi here said the weather is good from November to March next year, but the peak season is from February to June (that mean everything is more expensive, everything!). So you can decide for yourself if you planning to so.
Our stay
The hotel/resort that we were in, it was in a nice location, right on the beach, and we can enjoy the sea as much as we want. We stay in bungalows, everything was ok (to the 2 star hotel). But we had few disappointment points
- The breakfast was not so clean. I had vomit twice when using breakfasts here although other members in my family were all ok.
- The breakfast menu is so simple and less choice, and coffee or tea is not one of them.
- The washing is not as we expected, still have detergent on one of our clothing.
To compensate, the private beach was awesome!
The food
There was one meal that not very good, and expensive, other meals are all ok and delicious. The portion of food here was bigger than we expected so we usually not able to finish everything, but we tried as we can. My family had kids and elderly so the foods have to be various.
Our schedule
Day 1: To Phu Quoc, have dinner, rest and enjoy the private beach, visit the night market
Day 2: To Vin Safari (suitable for the kids, with many animals and nice tour), VinWonders and GrandWorld at night.
- You should buy the combo ticket for cheaper price and can move between places (Safari <-> Wonders) for free, however, about 60000vnd between Wonder <-> Grandworld.
Day 3: To few places, souvenir shops to buy Pearls, Special Goods, and then the longest cable cars in the world. If you don’t have kids in your group, you can take the highspeed water train on the way in, and cable car on the way out. There is a water park on the island where you can enjoy water activities.
On the way back, we visited Ham Ninh village -> very good and cheap foods, seafood over here! Recommend to come.
Day 4: To other places in the city
- Phu Quoc Prison Museum
- Fish sauce barrel house
- Phu Quoc Dogs house
- Ho Quoc Pagoda
- Myrtle fruit’s conversation area
- Green pepper garden
Day 5: “Dinh Cau”, and to the airport.
Some pictures during our trip
Other notes
The price of everything here is more expensive due to the big island and not suitable to plan or raise animal (except for dog). So you should expect to pay a bit more.
Most of every taxi driver here is both taxi driver, and the tourist/contractor at the same time. They will refer you to the tour or can help you books ticketsu. If you don’t like or already have, it’s ok to refuse.
If you want to discover the island, I recommend you to stay in the center (Duong Dong town), so you take less time and money to travel.
- Taxi to the north (VinSafari, VinWonder, Ganh Dau): 600.000vnd ~ 24USD
- Taxi to the south (cable cars and other islands): 600.000vnd ~ 24USD
- Tour around the town (roughly all the tourist attractions I listed on day 4 and more): 300000vnd ~ 12USD
- Electric car around in the GrandWorld – 200000vnd ~ 8USD, but you should walk around instead.
- The water music show in the GrandWorld is free, and recommend to watch! About 30 minutes from 9:30PM to 10:00PM
That’s all my notes about our trip. If you have any question, I’ll answer at my best knowledge.
